Finding Quality Childcare
Finding quality childcare can be a challenge for families of children with
autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and other developmental disabilities, and
families often have many valid concerns about who will look after their child.
However, it is ultimately the family’s decision as to who is hired. Parents
should be cautious when hiring a childcare provider. Here are some tips
for hiring a childcare provider:
- Carefully check references—if there is any hesitation, do not hire
that provider.
- Participate in a paid trial run before committing to future
services. Have the childcare provider spend two or three days in your families
usual routine to observe how the childcare provider interacts with your child,
sets limits and handles stressful situations. Some childcare providers will even
travel with families to help while families are on vacation.
