Austin Skidmore loves to play baseball—shortstop specifically. But, there was a time in his life when his parents wondered if he was ever going to play again.
Joey Dechant is beginning to understand the world around him. “Just the other day, he picked up a Magna Doodle and wrote his name. He just did it. When we got home, I pulled out a paper and pen. He wrote his name again. I couldn’t believe it,” his mother, Kristin, said.
When she’s not driving nearly 700 miles a week to and from her home near Griffin, Ga., to take her 6-year-old son, Gavin, to Marcus Autism Center, Brooke Wright is fighting for autism insurance reform and raising money in her community. Her every waking moment is dedicated to ensuring a better future for Gavin.
