Program Overview
The Marcus School (MBCS) offers educational programming for children who exhibit self-injurious, aggressive and other destructive behaviors. Typically, the severity of these behaviors poses a health risk to themselves and others. The behavioral treatment and educational intervention designed and implemented at the School, modifies these behaviors so that children can participate in their neighborhood school and enjoy a better quality of life in their homes.
Developing Individual Education Programs with community schools, the curriculum developed at the school has several goals for students: acquiring language and communication skills; developing social skills that facilitate social interactions with others; and learning academic and functional life skills.
Those enrolled in MBCS spend the day in the classroom where instruction and behavior therapy are provided throughout the day. The School offers educational programming throughout the course of the calendar year.
The ultimate goal of the School is to transition children to their neighborhood schools. By promoting a partnership between families and schools, we strive to assist students to benefit from instruction and to enable them to maximize their potential.
