Community Autism Program (CAP)
Description of Program
The Marcus Autism Center is now offering an in-home service for families of children with autism. Behavior Parenting Specialists will help families address the behavioral needs of their children and teach strategies to improve social and self-help skills.
Who is Eligible?
Children...
- between 2 and 8 years of age
- diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder
- with mild to moderate behavior problems, may include: tantrums, running away, noncompliance, eating difficulties
- eligible for Medicaid
- with motivated parents who are ready, able, and available for learning new skills
How does the Program Work?
Behavior Parenting Specialists (BPS) will go into the home to work directly with the child and parents. BPS will assess family's strengths, needs and priorities and create a service plan that will best meet those needs. Visits can occur as often as two to three times per week for the first six to ten weeks, and then gradually fade for the remainder of the program.
What is required?
Families are asked to have at least one parent and the child available for every visit, to implement planned activities between sessions, and to make a commitment to the six-month program.
What types of services are provided?
