Boys Knight Out

Boys Knight Out is the newest event benefiting Marcus Autism Center, a subsidiary of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. This mother-son event will include a kid friendly dinner and exclusive, after-hours access to Atlanta’s hottest new interactive play space, Kefi. Our “knights” will enjoy themed activities while the “ladies” will be treated to pampering and a silent auction. Enjoy a date night with your son and help us raise money for Marcus Autism Center during Autism awareness month. Aunts, grandmothers and special friends are invited to participate as well!

Camp You B You Sleepaway Camp
Sunday, June 7, 2020 to Friday, June 12, 2020
9 AM to 4 PM

You B You Sleepaway Camp is a week-long camp for children ages 8-16 with autism or related disorders who present with moderate to high functioning skills. June 7-12, 2020. 

Details
There are two programs:

General Camp (ages 8-14)
General camp is for children ages 8 to 14 who are able to function with a 5:1 camper to adult ratio. Instruction across the course of the week will include but not be limited to:

  • Independent hygiene routines and life skills (clothing management, sleep routines, getting ready for daily routines, etc.)
  • Social skills practice, participating in activities with others, having reciprocal conversations on self-selected and non-self-selected conversation topics, taking turns, sportsmanship/losing games, encouraging peers, asking for help, etc.

Specialty Camp: Leader in Training (ages 15-16)
The Leaders in Training (LIT) specialty camp offers a unique opportunity designed to teach beginning leadership training skills. Instruction across the course of the week will include but not be limited to:

  • Assisting camp counselors with group management of younger campers
  • Facilitating beginning social skills among other campers
  • Assisting younger campers with participation in challenging activities
  • Acting as a role model for younger campers

Cost
General campers: $375
LIT specialty campers: $400

Registration
Registration for camp will open Monday, Feb. 24, at 9 a.m., and close Monday, April 6. The application review process may include a caregiver phone screen. Caregivers will be notified if their child is offered a spot by Friday, April 10. Follow the links below to complete the registration process.

Planning Your Child’s Successful Transition to Adult Services

This workshop is intended for caregivers of teens and young adults ages 15 to 20 with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who are approaching adulthood. This workshop will help caregivers learn about the transition process and the variety of services and care options for young adults with ASD. This workshop is open to caregivers of teenagers 15 and older. There is no cost to attend.

Pre-registration is required to attend. To register, contact Michelle Denney. Once your registration request is received, you will be placed on the confirmed list. You will receive a detailed email one week before the workshop.

Toddler Workshop Series - May
Wednesday, May 13, 2020
3 PM to 4 PM

Please join us for a 2-part workshop series for families to learn how to encourage their child with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to communicate and play with others at home. Parents will learn how to setup the home to support learning, increase child involvement during everyday activities and playtime, tempt their child to communicate and begin to address toddler tantrums. A multidisciplinary team from psychology and speech and language pathology will present this workshop.

2020 dates

  • May: Wednesday, 5/13, 5/27 (3:00 – 4:30pm)
  • June: Wednesday, 6/10, 6/24 (3:00 – 4:30pm)

Additional workshops may be scheduled for Fall 2020.

Limited childcare services are available upon request.

Registration
The total cost for this workshop series is $80 for up to two caregivers.
Registration and payment are required prior to attending the first session.

Tuesday
Toilet Training Workshop Series
Tuesday, November 3, 2020
4 PM to 6 PM

This workshop was created caregivers of individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities who have toileting concerns. In this 2-part workshop, the primary focus will be on urine training and will give caregivers several strategies to increase toileting success at home. The second session will be an opportunity to discuss successes and challenges and develop new action plans with a professional with years of toilet training experience.

  • Toileting Part 1: Tuesday, November 3, 2020: 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
  • Toileting Part 2: Tuesday, November 17, 2020: 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

 

Registration
The cost is $45 to attend both sessions. Registration is required prior to attendance. To register for this workshop, please contact Michelle Denney. Autism Speaks Walk
