Camp You B You Sleepaway Camp
Sunday, July 11, 2021 to Friday, July 16, 2021
8 AM to 5 PM

Camp is back! We are currently planning to host an overnight camp at Camp Twin Lakes July 11-16. We know camp will look a little different this year and we are working closely with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Twin Lakes on safety procedures.

You B You Sleepaway Camp is a week-long camp for children ages 8-16 with autism who present with high functioning skills. Camp allows for children with autism to participate in traditional camp activities in an accepting and supported environment. Camp is run in collaboration with Camp Twin Lakes and occurs at one of their locations. Camp Twin Lakes is a network of camps providing life changing programs to Georgia’s children with illnesses, disabilities, and other challenges. There are two programs:

General Camp (ages 8-14)
General camp is for children ages 8-14 who are able to function with a 5-to-1 camper to adult ratio. Daily activities include archery, swimming, rock climbing, boating, etc. with an evening program every night (talent show, magician). Campers indicate their activity preference for the morning discovery program and are paired with other campers accordingly. In the afternoon, campers rotate between traditional camp activities in assigned groups. Campers are assigned to girls and boys cabins (four to five campers and one counselor per cabin) based on age and the age range of campers available (so the age range in any cabin varies yearly).

Review our frequently asked questions and camper eligibility criteria to learn more about campers who will be the most successful in this setting.

Specialty Camp: Leader in Training (LIT) (ages 15-16)
The Leaders in Training (LIT) specialty camp offers a unique opportunity designed to teach beginning leadership skills. LITs serve as role models during regular camp activities, assisting counselors and younger campers, and participate in their own specialized programming and leadership training. Potential LITs must interview for this position.

Expectations over the course of the week will include but not be limited to:

  • Assisting camp counselors with group management of younger campers
  • Facilitating beginning social skills among other campers
  • Assisting younger campers with participation in challenging activities
  • Acting as a role model for younger campers
  • Participation in specialized evening programming focused on leadership
